What can you expect from my Group Hypnobirthing Course?

Our Group Hypnobirthing course is designed to be the only birth preparation course you need to do. The focus is on preparing parents-to-be for an informed, empowered and positive birth experience, however your labour unfolds on the day. I understand that the way you feel about your birth directly impacts your start to parenthood, so the aim is to make this transition as easy and smooth as possible for you and your new family.

This is the ultimate birth preparation course that covers every aspect of labour and birth, including the specialist teaching of Hypnobirthing tools and techniques that help you remain in control; ensuring you manage your birth journey with strength and confidence. Hypnobirthing has many benefits (for you AND for your baby!) and can decrease the need for pain relief, as well as promoting a shorter labour and less need for medical intervention. Oh and don’t worry – there are no awkward ice-breakers or ‘get to know me’ games in my classes… (Show this bit to your birth partner!)

Taking back control…

For some, pregnancy and birth can be a rollercoaster of emotions – lots of changes (physical and emotional) can often leave you feeling a lack of control.

Preparing for your birth is up there with one of the most important things you can do when you are pregnant. Understanding that you have so much more choice than you initially realised will give you a new-found sense of calm and control as you head towards the end of your pregnancy and birth itself.

Investing in your birth preparation really does hold the key to transforming your pregnancy and birth- with the potential to take you from fearful to fearless.

When is it best to join a class?

This course is perfect if you are anywhere between 20-34 weeks pregnant, and although most women choose to start their course during their second trimester, if you are a little later on in your pregnancy you will still benefit from the course immensely.

For some having it fresh in their mind towards the end works best, for others, the more time to get clued up and practice techniques the better. It is never too early OR late to start – it is completely up to you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Those that really throw themselves into their practise, and embody all that Hypnobirthing teaches can stack the odds in their favour of a better birth experience.

Recent evidence shows that Hypnobirthing can make labour shorter, more comfortable and significantly reduce rates of medical intervention; including the need for pain relief, assisted (forceps/ventouse) births and unplanned caesarean births. Hypnobirthing is scientific and evidence-based, so don’t let the name put you off!

More and more women are choosing to prepare for birth in this way, including many famous faces! It has gained popularity with Midwives worldwide, with many teaching Hypnobirthing themselves and even NHS Trust’s investing in their training.

Where possible I strongly recommend you complete the course with your birth partner.  In order for you to work as the best birth team possible on the day, your birth partner needs to have the same preparation, knowledge and Hypnobirthing understanding as you.

Learning and preparing together in this way also brings you closer together as a team, and can be a true highlight of your pregnancy. It gives you a dedicated space to discuss your thoughts, opinions, and wishes for birth and beyond, and also give you the opportunity to open up more important conversations following on from the course.

If you don’t have a partner you are of course welcome to do the course alone. However you are welcome to have a friend, relative, doula or someone else to support you through the course too.

NCT classes are a traditional form of group antenatal education, and have been around for a very long time (your parents or even grandparents possibly did them). They follow a very ‘text book’ format. You learn about labour and some of your main options around this, as well as baby care – such as how to change a nappy.

On an NCT course you won’t learn the practical Hypnobirthing tools and techniques for pregnancy and birth that I teach. As well as all of the information around your choices and navigating the maternity system, my Hypnobirthing courses are about transforming your mindset, supporting you in pregnancy and labour.

Some parents-to-be choose to do my course instead of NCT, while some choose to do both.

If you are very keen to make new parent friends, my Group Hypnobirthing classes are a brilliant way to meet likeminded people. If you are looking for more personalised, nuanced information and support, then my Private Hypnobirthing courses would suit you.

You can start a course whenever feels right for you! Most women choose to start their course during their second trimester, but if you are a little later on in your pregnancy you will still benefit from the course immensely.

An ideal time to start is anytime from 20-34 weeks pregnant. For some, having the information fresh in their mind towards the end of pregnancy works best. For others, the more time to get clued up and practise techniques, the better! It’s never too early OR too late to start – it’s totally up to you!

Not at all! Hypnobirthing can hugely benefit all kinds of births in all birth places (not just for those having water births at home). If you find yourself being classed as ‘high risk’ in your pregnancy, Hypnobirthing can give you the practical tools to support yourself in different environments and scenarios, and can even decrease the need for unnecessary medical intervention; which can be more likely on a Labour Ward environment.
